I know it can be a pain to register to comment, but I would love to answer some questions and post them here. Lots of people I meet ask me the same things.
So, please feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to give you an honest and personal answer.
Pardon my ignorance, do bodies only need to be embalmed if they're going to be viewed? So if they're being cremated, with no one seeing them first, is it necessary?
ReplyDeleteJohn, as I said, I wont be discussing my wages on here... Perhaps ask your local FD? Where are you located?
ReplyDeleteSmoked Paprika..... It depends on the funeral home. Some embalm everyone because, as discussed on one of my posts, embalming isnt just for viewing purposes. Its also to ensure that anyone who comes into contact with the deceased, ie to dress and place into their coffin, can do so without fear of communicable infection. Although gloves are always worn, sometimes people have soiled themselves or have been sick and its nicer to not have to have that hanging around for days until the funeral.
Some families change their mind about viewing at the last minute, and so knowing the deceased is embalmed means that the rate of decomposition is reduced and a peaceful experience can be given. If embalming isnt carried out, then a week later they ask to view, decomposition has already started and embalming cant reverse that.
Hope that makes it clear for you... Thanks for asking.
John! I think the 'honest and personal answers' were more to do with actual Embalming and not how much he/she is earning. It does state he/she will do 'their best to give an honest and personal answer'.
ReplyDeleteMay I add my friend that surely it is not good manners to ask a person how much they are earning. Even as a 'ball park' figure.....
Smoked Paprika.... not all FDs have friges or cold storage rooms so in those cases embalming is essential, especially as in UK there is the ''three day rule'' where VERY few people are buried/cremated before that time limit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Merrymug, you got it! My most honest and personal answer John is mind your own business, what a rude question to ask! However, in the spirit of appreciating you asking in the first place, I was trying to be polite!
ReplyDeleteThanks LaineyBean, and yes, holding people for any time is also a factor which needs consideration. Embalming means that the deceased can be held in a sanitory position without refrigeration or cold room.
